1) Born between Hitler and Mozart
Lecture by Dr. Andreas Maislinger, founder of the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service
When: Thursday November 5th, 7-8 PM
Where: 5th Floor of Kraft Center (606 W.115th St)
Join us for a discussion with Dr. Andreas Maislinger, founder of the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service (AHMS), an alternative to Austria's compulsory military service.
Dr. Maislinger will speak about the founding of the AHMS, changing attitudes toward the Holocaust, and the issue of collective responsibility. Q&A to follow.
Since its founding in 1992, more than 500 young Austrians have worked with Holocaust institutions, Jewish museums, research centers, and related organizations in 23 countries worldwide as an alternative to compulsory military service. Dr. Maislinger will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the LA Museum of the Holocaust on November 8th.

2) Beatles Benefit Concert!

The Beatles Benefit Concert will be featuring British-Mania, a fantastic Beatles Tribute Band, and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy.

A Case Study - Learning Session with Rabbi Ethan Tucker
Tuesday November 10th 8:00 PM on the 5th Floor of Hillel
Come learn together with Rabbi Ethan Tucker, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hadar. Through a case study from the seasonal laws of prayer, this shiur (Torah class) will explore the ways in which Jewish practice does and does not bend to local conditions.
Rabbi Ethan Tucker is Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hadar, where he teaches Talmud and Halakhah. Rabbi Tucker was ordained by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel after years of study at Yeshivat Ma'ale Gilboa and earned a PhD in Talmud and Rabbinics from the Jewish Theological Seminary. A Wexner Graduate Fellow, he is a co-founder of New York's Kehilat Hadar and a leading figure in the independent minyan scene in North America. 3) Speech Research
Help speech research at Teachers College, Columbia University and earn $20
Earn $20 for 1 hour and help us understand different pronunciations of speech sounds. We are looking for reliable native Hindi, French, or Hebrew speaking adults (ages 18-55), born & raised in a Hindi, French, or Hebrew-speaking household with no history of speech or language therapy, and normal hearing, who have been in the United States for less than 4 years. You should have limited exposure to other languages. If this describes you please contact Ana, M.S. student at aid2106@columbia.edu and leave a phone number where you can be reached.
Please also answer the following in your email:
1. Where were you born?
2. In which countries have you lived?
3. What language(s) did you HEAR & SPEAK in your home?
4. When did you come to the United States?
5. How many languages do you speak fluently?
If we are able to include you in the study we will contact you for an appointment. The study will take place at Teachers College, 525 West 120th Street (between Broadway & Amsterdam).
It is expected that it will take you approximately 1 hour to complete the task and you will be compensated with a total of $20 for your participation.
