1) One Voice: A Conversation with Israeli and Palestinian Actvists for Peace

When: Wednesday. November 4, 2009, 8-10 PM

Where: Held Auditorium, 3rd Floor Barnard Hall

A Grassroots Approach to Peace:

Interested in the Israel-Palestine Conflict? Tired of rhetoric that avoids working through difficult issues? Then join us for a panel discussion with Palestinian activist Dalia Labadi and Israeli activist Lee Rubenstein, leaders who have crossed boundaries and mobilized their communities towards a practical political solution to the conflict. Find out more about their work at www.OneVoiceMovement.org

What is OneVoice?

The OneVoice Movement is an international mainstream grassroots movement with over 650,000 signatories in roughly equal numbers both in Israel and in Palestine, and 1,800 highly-trained youth leaders. It aims to amplify the voice of the overwhelming but heretofore silent majority of moderates who wish for peace and prosperity, empowering them to demand accountability from elected representatives and work toward a two-state solution guaranteeing an end to violence, and a viable, independent Palestinian state at peace with Israel. Find out more at:  http://www.onevoicemovement.org/

Brought to you by the Muslim Students Association, Hillel, and a consortium of student groups including: LionPAC, Common Ground, Turath, Arab Students Association SIPA, Progressive Jewish Alliance, CIRCA, The Roosevelt Institute, Columbia Political Union, CU Democrats, Amnesty International, and the Interfaith Collective.

Dr. Maislinger will speak about the founding of the AHMS, changing attitudes toward the Holocaust, and the issue of collective responsibility. Q&A to follow.

Since its founding in 1992, more than 500 young Austrians have worked with Holocaust institutions, Jewish museums, research centers, and related organizations in 23 countries worldwide as an alternative to compulsory military service. Dr. Maislinger will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the LA Museum of the Holocaust on November 8th.

4) Interfaith Student Leader Retreat 2009

Friday, November 13th, 9:00am-5:00pm

Application Deadline - Tuesday, November 10th, 5pm

The Interfaith Student Leader Retreat is a new programming endeavor between the Office of Student Group Advising (OSGA), the Office of the University Chaplain (OUC) and Columbia/Barnard Hillel. We have created this new leadership retreat specifically geared toward our religious community student leaders to support the burgeoning interfaith community at Columbia. It is our sincerest hope that this day-long retreat will bring together student leaders of different faiths to find their commonalities and celebrate their differences, while tackling tough issues that currently face our University community.

We have invited key University staff to assist with the facilitation of the retreat and provide support for the student participants. In order to participate, we ask that you commit to the entire day. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided and we can accommodate any dietary needs.

* We encourage all undergraduate student leaders of SGB recognized religious and spiritual organizations to apply for this retreat.
