1. Koach Dinner:

Sign-ups for this weekend's Shemini Atzeret Koach dinner are now OPEN, with a limited amount of space!

We'll be eating Kosher Indian food, with a vegetarian option.  The dinner costs $10, and it will be held on the fifth floor of the Hillel (where Koach normally holds Friday night services).  Get back to us SOON, since this meal will fill up quickly!

Recap:

Who?  You and all your friends

When?  Friday night (Shemini Atzeret), right after services (7:30-ish)

Where?  Fifth floor of the Hillel

How much?  $10

Why?  INDIAN FOOD, DUDE

Sign up on facebook or speak to Mike Landes, Joseph Schwartz, or any other Koach board member to reserve a spot at the dinner.

2. Krav Maga:

Come learn the fundamentals of Krav Maga, the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) form of self-defense, with IDF reservist and Columbia student Yoav Oren.

Krav Maga's techniques emphasize simple, practical movements, based on the body's natural instincts that can be performed by people of all levels of ability. Protect yourself with these self-defense skills that teach you to respond to violent attacks and assaults quickly and effectively, addressing the danger and counter attacking immediately to prevent further struggle. These techniques assume that you are at a disadvantage, and show you how to remove yourself from a dangerous situation in the shortest possible time.

Tuesday, October 13th in Rennert in the Kraft Center from 7:30-9:00pm.

PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING FOR THIS INVIGORATING WORKOUT!

A LionPac event cosponsored by the Israel Va'ad and AEPi.

3. Uri L'Tzedek/Hillel College Shabbaton, November 20-22:

Join Uri L’Tzedek and Columbia/Barnard Hillel for the second annual college shabbaton, November 20-22 at Columbia University. We will gather together for a weekend of programming and learning, networking, and action with Jewish social justice leaders from college campuses around the country. Together we will explore Jewish texts relating to issues of Orthodoxy and social justice, develop social justice visions for our campus communities, and build relationships with other student leaders.  On Sunday participants will participate in a Yom Iyyun and take action as they hit the streets to support Uri L’Tzedek’s Tav HaYosher (http://tavhayosher.wordpress.com), an ethical seal for kosher restaurants.

Uri L’Tzedek is seeking college students who are committed to the mission of Uri L’Tzedek: education, leadership development, and action to create discourse, inspire leaders and empower the Jewish community toward creating a more just world. This shabbaton is part of Uri L’Tzedek’s college initiative, striving to develop a community of social justice leaders on campuses across the country. The shabbaton is free and includes housing, food and learning. For more information and to RSVP, please email Shoshie Sprague (shoshana.sprague@gmail.com)--Chair of the Uri L’Tzedek College Initiative—by October 25th. To find out more about Uri L’Tzedek, check out http://uriltzedek.webnode.com/

2. Fellowship for Graduate School to be a Jewish Professional:

Participating in the Wexner Graduate Fellowship/Davidson Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for leadership growth for those going into graduate school programs designed to train them to become Jewish professional leaders. In addition to financial assistance toward graduate study, fellows become part of a diverse professional community that encourages learning about one's self as a leader though interactions with others with different points of view.  Fellows engage with expert faculty members in the field of leadership education and expert scholars in Jewish studies. Being part of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship/Davidson Scholars Program extends well beyond the 4-year leadership program. Our extensive alumni network serves as a professional community throughout fellows' careers.

The application for those starting graduate school for the 2010-2011 academic year is now open at www.wexnerfoundation.org.

3. 'Predictable But Fun' Film Internship Opportunity:

The film 'Predictable But Fun', investigates expectations, social choices, and digital life, partly inspired by M.I.T. Media Laboratory research work, the story is told by wedding-gown designers from Israel and Palestine, covering universal themes which transcend race, religion, color and geography. This is not a political piece.

Currently in Post-Production, the film is seeking volunteers. For more information please contact us at: shulner@media.mit.edu
