1) Apply ASAP to be a JelLO Coordinator or Leader
Do you want to meet the incoming first year class? Do you want to be part of their first experiences at Columbia/Barnard Hillel? If so, you can apply now to be part of the JelLO leadership team! This is great opportunity to introduce Columbia and Barnard to the class of 2013. And it's a lot of fun!
The 3 coordinators plan the entire orientation experience for the first years, plus first year programs through the year. The 20 or so leaders are required to help out with the JelLO weekend specifically. Please look at the JelLO applications for more specifications.
Applications for coordinators are due tonight! Applications for leaders are due next Friday.

Purim this year starts on Monday night, March 9th. Here is the schedule of events for the holiday:
3/9/09 7:40pm – Megillah Reading
Women’s Tefillah – 5th Floor Auditorium of Hillel (open to all women)
Koach (Conservative) – Rennert (Basement of Hillel)
Yavneh (Orthodox) – Lerner Cinema (2nd floor of Lerner Hall) (non-CUID holders need to be added to a guest list because of Lerner Hall security. Please email rellife@hillel.columbia.edu to add a guest)
3/9/09 9:30pm - Purim Extravaganza Party
When: 9:30pm-midnight
Where: Lerner Party Space
FREE Food, Music, Costume Contest with Prizes and general balagan!

5) Jewish Education Workshop
Ever wanted to know how to lead services or read from the Torah? Join the Jewish Education Workshop for their kick-off event, March 8 at 12pm (5th floor Hillel), and learn how! Come make your own PB n'J with our jams, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, and more! Plus, enjoy some music, meet fellow participants and teachers, and fill out sign-up sheets so that you can get started! Interested in being a teacher for the workshop? 6) The State of Zionism Today
When: Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 PM
Where: Fifth floor of the Hillel Building (606 W115 Street)
Are we in a Zionist era, a post-Zionist era, or even a post-post-Zionism era? What do these terms even mean today? The Hillel Israel Committee, the Columbia Current, and Garin Lavi invite you to a lecture on this topic by visiting Professor Derek Penslar. Dairy dinner will be provided.
7) Avanim Submissions
Avanim, Hillel's Jewish literary magazine, is currently accepting submissions for the spring edition - photography, poetry, original artwork, short stories (800 word limit). Submissions are due March 10th, 2009, and can be sent to avanim.magazine@gmail.com.
8) LionPAC Lobby Mission
Interested in the political process? Want to make an impact on decisions made by our lawmakers in Washington, DC? Join LionPAC and fellow activists on this FREE trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and promote pro-Israel legislation. This daytrip to Washington provides an opportunity to meet important decision-makers in Washington for anyone who is interested in the political process. Interested in getting involved in planning the Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) commemoration and other related programming? Please email Michal at education@hillel.columbia.edu to join the committee.
10) Yom Hazikaron Commemoration Planning Committee
Interested in helping to plan Hillel's Yom HaZikaron ceremony? Yom HaZikaron is Israel's memorial day, when we come together to remember those soldiers who gave their lives fighting for Israel. This year, Hillel's ceremony will be on the evening of April 28 in Rennert Hall (606 W 115 Street).
