5) FREE Call+Response Screening and Live Concert with Matisyahu
Thursday, February 26 @ 7:00 pm
Miller Theater - Columbia University (doors open at 6:30pm)
Join us as we continue the conversation on morality, by looking at the modern human trafficking industry. We'll explore the value and the nature of human beings through music, photography and film. Award winning recording artist Matisyahu will kick-off and close the evening with a live concert.
CALL+RESPONSE (www.callandresponse.com) is a first of its kind feature documentary film that reveals that there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE goes deep undercover where slavery is thriving from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India to reveal that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined. This is a particularly important conversation for Columbia since thousands of slaves are trafficked through New York. Justin Dillon, creator and director of the film, will be there to talk about the modern day slave trade. The photography project Sex and Money: a Global Search for Human Worth, will also be featured.
Free tickets will be available at the Lerner Hall Box Office (non-CU ID tickets are limited)
Co-sponsors for the Veritas Forum include InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Remnant Christian Fellowship, Korean Campus Crusade for Christ, and Columbia Students for Christ. Co-sponsors for this event include Columbia/Barnard Hillel Social Justice, Blue Key Society, and Ferris Reel.

1) Silence of the Lambs ? New Voices of Religious Environmentalism
Moderator: Prof. Robert Pollack, Director, CSSR
Do you care about the environment? Are you passionate about sustainability? Are you a person of faith? Is there a connection?
Join faculty, activists and students with environmental concerns and religious interests for an informal interfaith discussion on the connection between faith and environmentalism.
Is there a theological basis for it? Care for creation? The morality of sustainability? Social Justice? Spirituality and nature?
Is the religious voice loud enough on the environment? Is it embraced by the environmental movement? if not, why?
Come to listen and to share your own beliefs, feelings and experiences!
Refreshments will be served.
Thursday, February 26th, 6-7:30 PM. The Postcrypt Coffeehouse (in the basement of St. Paul's Chapel. Enter through the left side entrance and walk down the stairs).
For details, contact rf2241@columbia.edu
The event is organized by the Interfaith fellows of the office of the University's Chaplain, The Center for the Study of Science and Religion and the Sustainable Development PhD Student Group.
2) Batsheva Dance Company at BAM
Under the artistic direction of American-Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, Tel Aviv’s world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company thrills us with this dizzyingly fast, audacious, and sensual new work, Max. Marvelously skewed solos melt into sprawling ensembles, in playful, sexy movements at BAM.
Naharin and his dancers represent a vibrant contemporary Israeli culture, and we hope that you and your community will be able to join us in support and celebration of the troupe’s new program. With this in mind, I wanted to remind you about BAM’s incredible Student Rush program. BAM offers $10 tickets to students under 25, the day of a performance. To purchase tickets, you can call BAM Ticket Services (718.636.4100) beginning at 3pm the day of show to confirm that student rush will be offered. Then, come to the BAM Box Office no earlier than 90 minutes prior to the performance time to purchase your tickets.
3) CALL FOR MULTIMEDIA CURATORS
If you were around in the 05-06 school year, you most likely remember collision—from the subway party on the way to Brooklyn to partying in an art-filled warehouse/former bathhouse with more than 1,000 of your classmates right after finals ended. If not, you might have heard of collision. Neither of the above? Read on. [Of course, read on even if the above applies to you.]
collision is a not-for-profit arts and multimedia festival organized by Columbia students for Columbia students. It used to be an annual end-of-the-year tradition. The last time collision saw the light of day [or night], however, was in 2006. [collision was miniaturized into minilision in 2007 and was the last gig Vampire Weekend had before they blew up.] This year, we're bringing it back.
collision is made possible by student curators, artists, musicians, dancers, slam poets, technicians, guerilla publicists, and all around awesome people, and we need you to help out!
Until February 25 we will be calling out to all interested curators [no experience necessary, just commitment]. As a curator of dance, spoken word, visual arts, film, or music, you will be responsible for finding and curating as many Columbia artists as possible for collision on Friday, May 15. E-mail collision09@gmail.com as soon as possible if you are interested.
