1) Free Chagall Exhibition Tour

Ever wonder what all those green goats and flying people are supposed to mean in Chagall’s art?  Wonder what made a Jewish artist from a Hasidic background become one of the most prolific Crucifixion painters of the modern era? Come on an informal, guided tour of the Museum of Biblical Art’s new exhibition, “Chagall's Bible:  Mystical Storytelling,” with Dr. Aaron Rosen, the new post-doctoral fellow at Columbia’s Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies.

Sunday, November 9. Meet in the Hillel lobby (606 W 115th) @ 3.15 on Nov. 9 to take subway to Museum, or meet at Museum (Broadway at 61st) @ 4.00.
Please email
marnina@hillel.columbia.edu - we need to know how many people to expect so that we do not leave without you!

2) DeLeon - Amazing Israeli Band - Save the Date

On Sunday, November 23, an amazing new Israeli band, DeLeon will be performing at Columbia. Sponsored by Hillel, the Israel Va'ad and Arts on the Move, this concert will be fantastic! Ticket Sales will begin after Fall Break Keep on the lookout and visit DeLeon

3) Guatemala for Spring Break?

Want to have a meaningful spring break? Join Hillel and the American Jewish World Service for an alternative break to Guatemala. Application deadline is Friday, November 21st at 5pm. Please go to:
http://www.hillel.columbia.edu/template.php?name=asb for more information. Have questions: email Marnina marnina@hillel.columbia.edu

4) Interested in the History of Jewish Music?

Are you interested in studying the history of Jewish music?  The CU Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies is thinking about the *possibility* of offering such a course in Spring '09.  In order to pursue this they need to know that there is sufficient student interest.  If you would want to take this course (not an absolute commitment, since we don't have scheduling details yet) please email Jeremy Schwartz (
jds2119@columbia.edu) as soon as possible so that I can add you to the list of interested students.  Thank you!

5) Limmud NY 2009: For Jews of All Stripes
