1) Check out these Hillel classes
The Jewish Perspective of Politics - Barack or McCain, what would Rashi say? Taught by the wonderful rabbinic intern, Karen Perolman.
Meets every Monday from 7:00 - 8:00 PM, in Room 403, in the Kraft Center.

 

Introduction to Talmud. Taught by the wonderful David Polsky. Meets every Monday from 8:00 - 9:30 PM in 406 Hamilton.

 

Learn the Weekly Torah Portion (par'sha) with Rabbi Almog.  Meets every Wednesday from 8:00 - 8:45 PM in 406 Hamilton.

 

Learn to Read Hebrew with D'ror!
Meets every Thursday from 6:00 - 7:30 in Bishop Library on the 2nd floor of the Kraft Center.

 

(The Kraft Center is located at 606 W. 115th Street between Broadway and Riverside, across from the dorm Shapiro)

2) Friday Night Hangout
Come chill at this week's Friday Night Hangout, sponsored by Hillel's very own dance troupe: Shalhevet!

Cookies and tea start at 8pm and go until they kick us out!

See you in Cafe Nana, on the 2nd floor of the Kraft Center (115th St between Broadway and Riverside, across from Schapiro).

 

3) Study break

Come have some gooey fun with FONDUE!!

As always this study break is Tuesday night at 10pm on the 3rd floor of the Kraft Center (115th St between Broadway and Riverside, across from Schapiro).

 

4) A Lovely Affair: Koach Does Valentines
Hang out with Koach, decorate a few Valentines, and we will deliver them personally to your secret admirer's door. Each delivery will cost $1 and all proceeds will go to charity. So come, make some valentines, and enjoy some chocolates, cake, and cookies.

5) Israel@60 Kick-off Event

We're celebrating Israel's 60 years! Come kick-off a series of events highlighting Israel's achievements and world contributions.

Play Who Wants to be a Millionaire with the chance to Win a Free Trip to Israel!

Israeli music and food! Israeli dance lessons provided by Shalhevet!

Learn about upcoming events, including: Human Rights, Cultural Diversity, Technological Development, Women's Empowerment, Black History, Gay Activism, and more!

 

How to play Millionaire: Email your name to ecn2113@columbia.edu or drop your name in the raffle when you arrive at the event. Contestants will be chosen by lottery. Winner will compete with winners from other schools.

6) OCP/Hillel Ski Trip
Yes, Columbia/Barnard Hillel is running a President's Day weekend ski trip with Penn.  It's going to be a blast skiing, snowboarding, drinking loads of hot chocolate, snowball fights, the whole nine yards.  You don't want to miss this.  Lessons are available for first timers.

We will be meeting outside of Kraft and leaving at 7 AM arriving at Camelback mountain at about 8:30, skiing/snowboarding until 5 PM, and returning by 6:30.  Please respond ASAP to either:

7) Kosher deli in John Jay Dining Hall
The Kosher Deli in John Jay Dining Hall has reopened! Stop in and meet the managers, Yoel and Shlomie!

8) Call For Artists!
Are you an artist? Do you want to be one?

Please submit works for the Columbia/Barnard Hillel Spring 2008 Art Show: "All Actual Life is Encounter" (Martin Buber). This theme is meant to serve as a uniting framework for the show and is open to broad interpretation on the part of the contributing artists. The show will be hung at the Kraft Center from March through April. Submissions are due by February 14th. All Barnard, Columbia, JTS, TC students are encouraged to apply for this juried show! Here's a chance to promote the arts, show off your creative side, spread diversity, and help beautify the Hillel building! It's also a great way to showcase your work to fellow Columbia/Barnard students and faculty.

(Please note, you do not need to be a member of Hillel to participate).

Register NOW for the CLIP program!

The Collegiate Leadership Internship Program (CLIP) is a competitive, paid, summer internship experience in New York City for Jewish college undergraduates. CLIP matches interns with meaningful and engaging internships at a variety of for-profit, non-profit, and Jewish communal organizations throughout the city. Interns spend four days a week during the summer engaged in a professional work environment and one day a week with their fellow CLIP interns in meaningful, peer-driven, seminars with some of the city's best and brightest leaders.

 

CLIP is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who attend school in the NYC area or have permanent residency within a 50 mile radius of NYC. To learn more and apply, please visit the CLIP website at www.nyu.edu/bronfman/clip.
