1) Statement regarding "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week"
"The Columbia/Barnard Hillel is primarily a religious and cultural group, not a political one, and did not have any role in the invitation of David Horowitz, or any role in his 'Islamo-Fascism Week.'  David Horowitz speaks only for himself as an individual, not on behalf of the entire Jewish Community."

--Hillel Student Executive Board 2007

2) Hillel t-shirt contest - Deadline is Monday!
Do you want to know what the new Hillel T-shirts are going to look like... so do we! We're
holding a contest to see what they will look like.

The winner's design will be made into a t-shirt to be sold to the community; the winner and runner up will receive a free shirt!

Please submit t-shirt designs to Josh Dorsch at jad2130@columbia.edu, by noon on THIS MONDAY, October 29th.

Good luck, and if you have any questions, contact Josh (jad2130@columbia.edu).

3) "The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" Screening

Monday, October 29th

6:00 pm

Broadway Room (Lerner 2nd floor)

The familiar and disturbing pictures of torture at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison raise many troubling questions: How did torture become an accepted practice? Did U.S. government policies make it possible? How much damage has the aftermath of the Abu Ghraib scandal had on America's credibility as a defender of freedom and human rights around the world?

Acclaimed filmmaker Rory Kennedy's powerful documentary, GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB looks beyond the headlines to investigate the psychological and political context in which the torture occurred.

Sponsored by: The Progressive Jewish Alliance, Amnesty International, Columbia Muslims for Social Justice, SDS, and SEEJ.

4) Submit to Avanim!
Deadline: October 28

Columbia's Jewish literary magazine is looking for submissions - fiction that's 750 words or fewer, poetry, art, and photography. Send your stuff or any questions to avanim.magazine@gmail.com.
